A pig is building a house for his young family.
He’s building it out of bricks.
(he has previous with a wolf who lives round the corner)
Work is going well, the foundations are laid and he moves onto the walls.
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried building foundations or brick wall with trotters instead of hands (I haven’t either), but it sounds DIFFICULT.
Our pig sticks with it though, he perseveres and is making excellent progress.
He gets as far as the first floor when he accidentally knocks half the wall down.
So the pig gives up.
The end.
……………………
But Ian (I hear you cry), that can’t be the ending!
Why would he just give up on something so important?
You’re right to question him. But I reckon you may well have done something similar…
Let me explain 😉
“I missed a session last night so I’ve already broken my resolution”
This was what one of the people in our free Facebook group said this week, and I reckon it’s a pretty common thought pattern we’re all guilty of at one time or another. It goes something like this:
I messed up.
Again.
I always mess up.
I’m so useless.
Why did I ever think this would work?
I’ll never manage it.
What’s the point in trying?
I should just give up.
Where’s the ice cream.
Ok so I’ve dramatised slightly, but you get the idea.
Last Monday is historically the second most popular day of the year to start a health kick.
How many of you resolved to move more, to eat better and be generally healthier over the next few months?
Well Rome wasn’t built in a day people.
(even without a pig project managing)
If you suffer a setback, don’t lose sight of why you started.
If you were building a house for your family to live in for the rest of your lives, it would be madness to stop after one setback.
However when it comes to looking after our bodies — the only ones we get and arguably far more important to our loved ones than bricks and mortar – we’re so quick to lose our way, give in and retreat back to the safe and comforting embrace of normal.
Don’t be normal. Be the best version of yourself.
If a bit of your wall has fallen down since last Monday, dust yourself down and build it back up again.
You are worth it.
Because I promise you if you stick to it, you won’t regret it.
Ok, motivational rant over.
I may have lost my way a little there, but I hope you get the point.
Have a great evening.

Ps. As of next week I’ll be sending these emails on a Monday as we do the live Q&A in our free group on a Wednesday and there are only so many hours in the day!
