Go Back To Bed Days…

In my little world, Wednesday last week was a shocker.

A proper punch to the gut, you’ve got to be kidding me, go back to bed day.

Long story short, it involved a barny with the Mrs, a 2 hour phone call with BT, and a huge set back for our future plans with the studio.

So quite the 24 hours.

And I let it get to me.

All my planning, all my good intentions, all that “mindfulness” and meditation went out the window and I got myself wound up to the point I couldn’t really get anything done. Including writing this.

Just a couple of weeks ago I challenged myself to write and send a blog post/email every Wednesday, and just two weeks in I dropped the ball, I failed.

I put it off all day, couldn’t focus enough to get anything written, then when I got home at 9:30 I left my laptop in the bag, poured myself a whisky and watched a movie instead.

But you know what, it’s ok.

Sometimes things go sideways.

You might have planned to get started on a new health kick this Monday just gone.

The 1st of the month AND a Monday? It’s the PERFECT day to start something.

Then something else happened. Something that isn’t as important as the other thing you promised yourself you’d do today.

Sometimes it’s bad things that get in the way (like my back to bed day), sometimes it’s good things.

Good: the sun came out so you went to sit in the beer garden.

Bad: You’re hungover from sitting in the beer garden all evening on a school night.

Good: You go on holiday

Bad: Your flight home gets delayed

And the list goes on, and on, and on……

We’re all guilty of letting things get between us and what we want.

So it’s important, when it happens, to remind yourself of what’s important. To remind yourself of why you started. It took me the rest of the day, but the next morning I woke up, gave myself a good old talking to and listened to my own advice.

The important thing is that you don’t let one bad day, become a bad week.

Don’t get blown off course, acknowledge the set-back, chalk it up to experience, learn from it…and move on!

Have a great rest of the week, don’t let the little things hold you back.
