I met a painter last week.
We need the new upstairs studio painted, and this chap was coming to have a look at the space, then get back to us with a quote.
Once he’d had a look around, he asked me the following question:
“What’s your budget?”
And this flummoxed me somewhat.
Weird question for him to ask, right?
I need the room painted. No more, no less.
I’m not a painter, I have no idea how long that will take or how much it will cost.
So I wanted him (the professional) to tell me (the customer) how much that end result was going to cost.
Did my budget determine the price?
If my budget didn’t cover the cost, was he only going to paint half the room?
If it was too much, was he going to lay the paint on extra thick?
Why am I telling you this?
Because I reckon most of you will be shaking your heads and thinking that sounds pretty odd.
But this is the exact same thing most people do when they get in touch with us.
“How much is it?”
And now you might be thinking that’s different, that’s a fair question.
But is it any different from the painter?
After all, this is not an off the shelf purchase.
You’re not buying an iPhone.
It doesn’t get much more personal than identifying the specific goals that are unique to you, and the best way for us to help you achieve them.
And while a lot of gyms and trainers will ask for your budget then work from there, we do things the other way round.
And we’re proud of it.
You might think you want to buy a certain number of sessions, but you don’t. You want to buy an end result.
To lose X amount of weight, to fit back on your favourite jeans, to be able to run up the stairs without feeling out of breath. Specific stuff.
So, I think it’s better for us to tell you the truth – exactly what is required in order to get the results you’re after.
Better that than promise you results then not deliver.
And as I said in the subject line, some of you might disagree with me. That’s up to you.
If that’s the case then we’re probably not a good fit to work together anyway.
BUT
If you’re fed up of being promised amazing results over and over again by people in the fitness industry and so called experts in the media, then maybe you’re just the sort of person we can help.
Either way, if you have been thinking about getting in touch with someone to help you achieve those all important goals, I hope this makes you rethink your approach, what is important to you, and what questions you should be asking.
Have a great evening and I’ll speak to you again soon.
